About Threatcare
I’m David Mercer, and I started Threatcare after losing most of my savings to a scam.
It was patient, professional, and aimed at someone exactly like me. Afterwards, what struck me was how little honest, practical help there was, the advice was either frightening and full of jargon, or attached to something someone wanted to sell. And almost nothing addressed how isolating and shameful being scammed actually feels.
So I built the resource I wish I’d had.
What this site covers
I write about scams and fraud in plain language, from real experience:
- How scams work and how to spot them, the warning signs
- Protecting your money and identity, before anything happens
- What to do if you’ve been scammed, step by step
I don’t offer individual legal or financial advice, and nothing here replaces reporting fraud to the proper authorities or getting advice for your own situation.
How we keep it accurate
I’m someone it happened to, not a security expert, so every article is reviewed by a fraud and security professional, Dana Whitaker, CFE, before it’s published. The lived experience is mine; the guidance is checked by someone qualified to check it. We cite authoritative sources such as the FTC, the FBI’s IC3, and national fraud-reporting services. See our Editorial Policy for details.
