Editorial Policy

Last refreshed: June 1, 2026

We are committed to accurate, useful, and clearly-sourced information about scams and fraud. This page explains how we work.

How articles are created

Articles are researched and written using authoritative sources, such as the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), national fraud-reporting services, and consumer-protection bodies, which we cite at the foot of every article.

Expert review

Articles are reviewed by a Certified Fraud Examiner before publication. Reviewed articles display the reviewer’s name, credentials, and the date of review. Our current reviewer is Dana Whitaker, CFE.

Keeping content current

Scams evolve constantly, so we review published articles periodically and update them as new tactics emerge and official guidance changes. Each article shows its publication date and, where applicable, when it was last updated or reviewed.

Corrections

If you spot an error, please tell us via our Contact page and we will review it promptly.
